Classic King James Version

Bibles come in a variety of translations. The classic English language translation of the Bible is called the King James Version (KJV), but it can be hard to read if you’re not familiar with 16th century English. However, it’s recommended that you have at least one KJV version in your home study library, because this is the key version used in Bible concordances and dictionaries.

The Amplified Bible

A version for word nerds, The Amplified Bible (AMP) is one of the most detailed translations of the Bible. It amplifies the original Greek, giving the English a full and extended translation. This particular version is Mica’s favorite and she uses it for both personal study and message preparation.

New International Version

A contemporary translation, the New International Version (NIV) is an easy-to-understand text. While the translation isn’t as faithful to the original Greek as other classic versions, the NIV is great for day-to-day reading.

The Message

The Message is a modern paraphrase that is suitable for a secondary Bible. While this isn’t a good option for deep study, the Message offers a unique read that often sheds a fresh perspective to a favorite passage.

The Passion Translation

Similar to the Voice, The Passion Translation (TPT) is a modern paraphrase Bible that was recently released. The wording of the texts is fresh and powerful, adding a deeper dimension to daily devotions. This is an excellent option for secondary readings of Scripture.

New King James Version

Similar to the original KJV, the New King James Version (NKJV) is a traditional Bible text but without some of the archaic language of thee, thou, and verily. This is also an excellent translation to have in your Bible study library.

Holman Christian Standard Bible

The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB) is a clear, contemporary English translation that retains the validity of the original Greek text. This version is Jeff’s personal favorite and he uses it for his daily devotional time.

New Living Translation

Similar to the NIV, the New Living Translation (NLT) is another easy-to-ready contemporary text. This is a great option for day-to-day reading.

The Voice

The Voice is an exciting modern paraphrase Bible that adds vibrancy to daily devotions. This is a great tool to have in your Bible study library for secondary readings of favorite verses or passages.
